Happy 2012, Caenyrites! It's been awhile, as usual. I'm pretty sure this is more of a yearly update than a monthly one! But that's ok, it just means there is more to talk about (a WHOLE lot more) because it has definitely been a busy, busy time at World of Caenyr! So no more delays, here we go.
First, I need to talk about the biggest change that has taken place since my last update - me! I was hit by a car last summer, while jogging, and the experience changed my life. I'm all healed up now, but it made me realize very clearly how unexpected life can be, how you never know what day might be your last so enjoy every minute of it. As a result, I've finally pursued my life long dream of becoming a novelist. I've written plenty over the years, but never have I committed to writing a novel... until now. I've also come to believe it's time for me to take my Caenyr brand, take the mythos that so many have enjoyed over the last decade, beyond the gameworld and into a new medium. Therefore, my books will be Caenyr-based, starting with a series on Elvamir's story. Below is my first public excerpt from book one (still untitled.)
Perhaps this rainy night, at this inn, things would be different. He looked up at the dimly moonlit sign. His hands removed from the straps of his backpack to part the matted white hair on his face and shield his eyes from the downpour. 'The Dark Knights Inn' it read alongside the sigil of an ebony sword. The same mark etched into the ring on his raised hand and stitched onto the breast of his war-ridden leathers. Whether that relation meant a welcoming, however, was yet unclear. It was just as likely that his affiliation would be met with malice as it would with mead. There was also the matter of his race. Nevertheless, the hour was late, the weather ghastly, and his body exhausted. Given that the sign had not been torn down, the odds seemed in his favor. With a deep breath, and cautious step, he entered.
But even though I'm devoting myself to expanding the Caenyr story beyond the gameworld, it doesn't mean I'm abandoning it! It does, however, mean I need someone to help keep it alive and healthy. Or in this case, two someones - Zepp and Brutus! Both have been promoted to Deputy Administrators, alongside Laurel, and charged with managing the day-to-day operations for the gameworld. My ownership/leadership role remains oversight of Caenyr as a whole, managing the website and server, and control over the mythos (so History submission approvals, etc.) but for day-to-day activities related to the game those are the guys making it happen. And they are doing an AMAZING job!!! So congrats to them, and now let me share with you some of their great accomplishments to date.
It would be wrong for me to start with anything other than their efforts regarding mod updates. In fact, since my last news post there have been NINE MAJOR UPDATES to the gameworld, with many smaller updates in between. While the Kingdoms of Tendril and Genocise were removed from the gameworld to help consolidate things (they still exist in RP, just not in the mod), there have been many changes, additions and improvements to make up for it! The additions of Frost Bourne, the Forgotten Crypts, and Torath's Lair to name a few new areas; the new systems for Gem Socketing, guards, respawning, and kingdom portals; Major updates to existing areas such as Maleneska Village and the Rheave Isles; Hak updates/additions, class updates, housing updates and so, so much more! If you haven't played in awhile, you will be overhwlmed and excited by all of the updates! Great job to Builders of Caenyr!
With big changes in the module have also come big changes in Caenyr thanks to a strong DM-led serverwide RP - the Betherak War. They laid seige on the Kingdom of Chail, and without a King to lead them the army, the King's Royal Lancers, was unorganized and unprepared to defend quickly. Most of the Kingdom fell to ruin, the hardest hit being the village of Athkalta and the city outlands, but even the capital of Chail-Anden itself was not without significant damage. Thankfully, the citizens and guilds of the realm united and fought back, but not without a price. Now they work to rebuild what remains of the once "Golden Kingdom" of Chail, but will it ever be as grand as it once was? In other RP news, two news guilds have been established: The D'issan d'Oloth, Caenyr's first Itheril-based guild and also our very first player-created guild under the Flexible Guild System established by the WoC Evo initiative! The second is the Vor'Shadar, a desert tribe forcused on the occult, and power.

Sorry to see you leave, and hope you find your way home one day, we'll be keeping the door open for you my friend.

Hello, World of Caenyr!!!! Well my last update was towards the end of 2010 so there is definitely a LOT to cover since then and over this first half of 2011! No further delays, let's go!
First thing I have to say is HAPPY ANNIVERSARY! We have hit 9 YEARS as a community and persistent world! Wow, time really flies when you are having fun. Almost a decade and we still have a great base of players, many new but also many from the earliest days still with us as well. It's incredible the amount of RP that has been accomplished and the amount of friendships that have been forged over all these years. I'm humbled and honored to be able to lead this great group of people and to have been witness to your shaping of our amazing world. Here's to many more years ahead of us, Caenyr!
Speaking of our amazing community, several player conventions have taken place since my last update, one in Texas and one in Chicago where yours truly attended! Photos the two conventions have just been posted to our MySpace fan page along with a couple of older ones that still didn't have their photos up, so go check them out! I was personally able to attend one of the conventions and I had a blast! You guys never cease to amaze me when I get to meet you in person! In other player news we have had a lot of new players join our great world and many returning players too. It's half a year's worth so bare with me and apologies up front for anyone that I've missed (I'm sure there are some!) But here it goes, welcome to World of Caenyr!

On a sadder note we have had to say goodbye to Lili Ral'orn who has left Caenyr. You are already missed, hope to see you return one day.
If you remember in the last update I announced the World of Caenyr Evolution (WoC Evo) initiative, to quickly bring some community driven changes to the world so Caenyr evolves with the times and remains a fun and exciting place to play at. I'm happy to say the iniative has been a huge success so far, already driving over a dozen significant improvements! Great job to the previous Fellowship of Caenyr, the selected group that represented the player population for the first 6 months of WoC Evo and helped establish these incredible changes. The next Fellowship will be selected soon and I'm sure will bring the same level of enthusiasm and ideas that the other group did. I look forward to how we continue to grow!
There have been some pretty big changes in the DM team. First off we have a brand new DM Supervisor, DM Dangermouse and he is already kicking major arse! Secondly I have modified the DM team to allow for new candidates to act in full DM fashion the moment they are selected to join the team. These "junior" DM's have all the authority a Dungeon Master normally has and can start bringing RP to the players immediately! Their only limitation is the level of RP responsibility they are allowed to take on, such as the playing of Caenyr deities and so forth. Only after graduation from the DM Academy do they become "senior" DM's and earn these privileges. With this change we have already added several new DM's to the team and the impact has been immediate! The junior squad is already on the server brigning some awesome roleplay to the players!
I can't post an update without mentioning the INCREDIBLE work Brutus and his Builder Team have been doing!! EVERY month we have module updates now, most of them pretty significant and all of them appreciated! Besides a ton of hak additions/improvements to enhance the aesthetics of the world and options for the players, and updates to many of the popular areas that already exist in the World, the team has recently given you the Sepich Stronghold, Goldhaven, Sea Battles, Persistent Storage, implemented many of the WoC Evo's and so much more! Can't thank you guys enough, you rock! Check out this month's screenshot of Goldhaven to get just a small taste of their amazing work. You'll have to get in game to experience the rest!
