Prologue: The Birth

Rain harshly bombarded the wide courtyard of Genocise. The son of Elvamir, Verin Dy'ness, Overlord of the Dark Knights, had called his entire legion together. To his right stood Balok Cole, glorious General of the mighty dark army. The black-clad troops stood at attention, curious glances flashed this way and that, none knowing the true meaning of this call to arms.

Finally, the ominous silence was broken. The Overlord's voice rang clearly through the patter of rain. Faces contorted as minds began to grasp the weight of what was spoken. As Verin's speech came to a close, a choice befell those gathered:
Stay in Genocise and vanquish the already cowering Etarians, or stand behind Cole, Slayer of the Dark Knights, General and teacher of those gathered, and conquer the vast lands of Tyrania.

Some knew their place immediately, moving to stand behind their deeply and fervently respected general. Other's hearts were too deeply attached to the cleansing rain of Genocise, to the leader that ruled them there, to leave. No matter the choice, no spite was felt, no hard feelings were expressed. A Dark Alliance formed that eve, a bond forged through blood and pain and soon to be expressed through war and ruin.

Preparations were made immediately. A sleek black vessel, pried from the dead hands of an itheril clan and known simply as the Apocalypse, was loaded with troops and supplies. The ship's admiral, and now second behind the newly appointed Dark Lord Cole, thoroughly oversaw the readying of the ship. War Master Bane--the Fallen, as this admiral was once known--eagerly awaited the cast off, longing to watch the vast ocean pierced by the Apocalypse's prow.

Those that set sail that day were the first of what would soon be known as the Dread Talon. Their destination was the harsh wastes of the Atharthok Desert. It was from those desolate lands they vowed the complete and utter destruction of Tyrania, a destiny endowed to them by the Sandstorm Lord himself.

Chapter 1: The Life

Whispers of a deadly threat from the west began to spread from tavern to tavern. Mothers began warning naughty children that the Dread Talon would snatch them out of their rooms if they did not behave themselves. Fear of the mighty desert legion, under the vision of the Dark Lord, was seen in the eyes of the Tyranese.

Scores of like-minded individuals began flocking to the growing threat. Hardened warriors, green-horned visionaries, and even the mighty tribes of the People of the Sand united under the single banner of the Dread Talon.

Still, times in the beginning were demanding. As the People of the Sand began construction of a glorious desert citadel, the homeless Dread Talon began a series of guerilla campaigns. Random patrols of Order of Light guards, wandering too far from their heavily garrisoned cities or forts, were slaughtered. The wandering Talon's influence reached deep into the north, ripping the fangs from the mouths of the vampyre covens that dwelled there, and as far east as to disturb the growing Disciples of the Jade Dragon; their peaceful and honorable ways tormented by the unrelenting vision of the Dark Lord, Balok Cole.

Unspoken vengeance swept across the lands of Tyran. Strength and numbers continued to grow, as fear and misery were sowed along the fertile lands. However, all good things must come to a close. In the end, the Dread Talon was unable to escape this cold fact.

Chapter 2: The Sandstorm

The Sandstorm struck fast and fierce. In a moment, the Dark Lord was snatched from this realm. Taken to be with Melivar.

Lost without their Lord's magnificent vision of revenge, the Dread Talon finally began to falter. Within days of the loss of Cole, others were wiped from the face of Caenyr. War Master Bane was found dead from unknown reasons, and Samone, Vizier to Balok and second only to Bane, was crushed by a contingent of vengeful Order of Light soldiers. The Dread Talon was left leaderless and astray.

Those that withstood The Sandstorm, vainly attempted to understand Melivar's actions. Why take Cole? Why now? What is to come? The questions were answered simply by the ominous howling of the mighty Atharthok winds. Many during this time wandered away from the vision set forth by the Dark Lord and were destroyed for their lack of foresight. Those that remained were listless, feeling a deep sense of loss without their father, the Dark Lord.

Chapter 3: The Renaissance

A pillar arose from the ashes of the Dread Talon. Unquestioning his Lord Melivar's will, this warrior stood unyielding amongst the chaos. The scattered remnants of Balok's army clung to this man, finding strength in his unchanged values. Luindil, baptized the Reaper by the Dark Lord, would not let the omnipotent vision of vengeance be extinguished.

Gathering what was left of the troops, the Reaper sojourned deep into the Atharthok, claiming the citadel that was finally completed. Scythe in hand, Luindil met with the tribal chieftain of the People of the Sand, knowing one more step was needed before the Dread Talon could renew their march of destruction.

The Lion's Tooth, a slender blade possessed by the commander of the nomadic People of the Sand, promised to the Dark Lord, and held by the Overlord of the Dark Knights, was required. Preparations were made immediately. Luindil was forced to return to the drenched lands of Genocise, to the birthplace of the Dread Talon. It was there that the Reaper would meet with his former ruler, Verin Dy'ness, and acquire the tiny blade that held enormous weight.

The gloomy halls of Mortuor will forever mark the location of the Dread Talon's rebirth. Luindil met with the Overlord in those mighty halls and striking revelations were made. The brilliant Lion's Tooth was easily bestowed and Luindil was blessed with the surname Dy'ness, joining the Reaper's growing saga to that of evil legends past and present. It was that very moment that the newly appointed Dy'ness felt his station concrete. It was that very moment that the Dread Talon Renaissance began.

Chapter 4: The Future

The Dy'ness banner has been raised in Tyran. The Reaper gathers a mighty legion under his sublime vision as the deserts of the Atharthok are secured by his existing force. Small skirmishes have begun to take place along the borders, pieces slowly move into place, and soon the Dread Talon will march. Soon the feared Talon will strangle the lands of Tyrania, squeezing the life from its fertile fields as flames consume all that exists. The flames of this fire will flicker and dance in the evil eyes of those worthy, of those in the Dread Talon.
